Using Right Forms of Verbs

A verb can have five visual forms:

Use of Base Forms

1. After plural subject and I to indicate present time:
  • The birds (sing) _____ sing in the morning. 
  • My friends (play) _____ play football on Sundays. 
  • I (write) _____ write a letter to my grandmother every month. 
  • They (read) _____ read books in the library. 
  • The students (study) _____ study hard before exams.
  • You (eat) _____ eat breakfast at 7 a.m. daily. 
  • The children (watch) _____ watch cartoons in the evening. 
  • We (walk) _____ walk to school together. 
  • I (love) _____ love listening to classical music. 
  • They (help) _____ help their parents with household chores. 

2. After modal verbs:

  • You must (finish) _____ finish your homework before playing. 
  • We should (respect) _____ respect our elders. 
  • He can (swim) _____ swim very well. 
  • They might (arrive) _____ arrive late due to traffic. 
  • will (call) _____ call you tomorrow. 
  • She may (need) _____ need some help.

3. After the object of a causative verb [if the object of the causative verb is the doer of the next verb]:

  • The coach made the players (run) _____ run five laps.

1. To Indicate Completed Actions in the Past
