The Life of a Housemaid

Short Version

Rina was a poor girl. She worked as a housemaid in a rich family. The master of the house was kind to her, but his wife was very cruel. She often became angry with Rina and scolded her for small mistakes. Rina was always afraid of her.

One day, Rina was serving tea to the family. Suddenly, a cup fell from her hand and broke. The mistress became very angry. She slapped Rina again and again and then beat her with a stick.

Rina began to cry loudly. She fell at the woman’s feet and asked her to forgive her. The master also tried to stop his wife and make her calm, but she did not listen to him.

The mistress went to the kitchen and brought some very hot water. She poured it on Rina. Rina’s head, face, shoulders, and chest were badly burned. But the cruel woman did not stop. She also hurt Rina with a hot pan.

At last, Rina became unconscious. The mistress dragged her into the kitchen and locked the door.

A kind neighbour saw what happened and called the police. Soon, the police came to the house. They broke the lock and rescued Rina. Then they took her to a hospital for treatment.

The police also arrested the cruel mistress and sent her to jail. The master was very sorry for Rina. The neighbour was happy that Rina was finally safe.
