One day, I was passing by Dhaka University. It was afternoon. Many students were walking on the road. Suddenly, I saw a boy of nine or ten years old. He was standing near the gate with a letter in his hand. His clothes were old, and his face looked sad.

The boy came to me slowly and handed the letter to me. He said, “Brother, can you please read this letter for me? I cannot read.” I took the letter and opened it. The letter was from his mother. She was in a hospital. She wrote that she was very sick and needed medicine at once.

When I read the letter, the boy’s eyes filled with tears. He said, “My father died two years ago. My mother works very hard for me. Now she is sick. I do not know what to do.” I felt very sorry for the poor boy. I thought, “This child needs help now.”

I took the boy to the hospital. His mother was lying on a bed. She looked weak and tired. I talked to the doctor. The doctor said, “She needs medicine, but the boy has no money.” I went to a nearby medicine shop and bought the medicine.

After some time, the mother took the medicine and felt a little better. She looked at me and said, “May God bless you.” The boy held my hand and thanked me again and again.

I came back from the hospital with a peaceful mind. That day, I learned a great lesson. We do not need to be rich to help others. A kind heart is enough.
