King Midas and the Golden Touch

Then his little daughter came and hugged him. At once, she became a golden statue. King Midas cried loudly. He prayed to the fairy. The fairy took away the power. The king learned that greed is dangerous.

One day, a fairy came to him. The fairy asked, “King Midas, what do you want?” The king quickly said, “I want a wonderful power. I want everything I touch to become gold.” The fairy said, “This may bring you trouble. Please think again.” But King Midas did not listen. He said, “No, I want the golden touch.” So the fairy gave him the power.
King Midas became very happy. He touched a chair, and it became gold. He touched a table, and it became gold. He touched flowers in the garden, and they also became gold. The king laughed and said, “Now I am the richest man in the world.”
After some time, the king became hungry. He sat down to eat. But when he touched the bread, it turned into gold. He touched fruit, and it also turned into gold. He tried to drink water, but the water became gold too. The king became afraid.
Just then, his little daughter ran to him. She loved her father very much. She hugged him, and at once she became a golden statue. King Midas cried and cried. He said, “I do not want gold. I want my daughter back.”
The fairy came again and took away the power. His daughter became alive. King Midas hugged her with joy. He learned that love and life are more important than gold.
