My dear A,

Your sorrowful letter is just to hand. I am greatly shocked to know that your dear father is no more among us. I cannot still believe this painful news.

Dear friend, the news of your father’s death comes to me as a bolt from the blue. I know that he had a mild stroke last year. But he looked so cheerful and fit. Nobody has ever imagined that he will pass away so soon. The death of your father is a great loss to your family. Your father was the only earning member of your family. Besides, he took great care of you and your brother and sister. He never thought about his own comfort and happiness. His only dream was to make you great in life. His death is also a great loss to me because he was one of my best guardians and loved me like his own sons. He also inspired me in my studies. So, his death is an irreparable loss to both you and me. But you must not forget that man is mortal. We must die today or tomorrow. It is the unbreakable law of Nature and none can violate it. Always mind it that everything happens at the will of Allah/God. We have to depart from the world when we are called from the Heaven. So, I tell you not to break down. Have courage and face the reality. You are the eldest son of your parents. If you bread down, your family will lose all hope. Your father was a very pious man. Merciful Allah /God will place him in Heaven. I pray for the salvation of his departed soul.

I am visiting you very soon. Don’t feel yourself deserted. I am always by your side in weal and woe. Please, convey my words of consolation to your mother and to the youngers.

Yours ever,

Subject: A train journey I have recently enjoyed.

My dear A,

It is many days since I got your last letter. Hope you are well. I am sorry not to tell you that I have recently enjoyed a journey by train. Now I am writing to you about it.

Last Friday I paid a visit to my uncle’s house in Dhaka and enjoyed a journey by train. My parents were also with me. On the appointed day we reached Khulna Railway Station at 8 a.m. My father bought three first-class tickets. Then we got on the train which was waiting at the station. Soon the guard blew his whistle and waved his flag. Then the train began to move with a long whistle. The speed of the train increased gradually. It was the Chittra Express which was running very fast. I sat beside the window and looked outside to enjoy the sights on either side of the railway line. I gazed and gazed at the houses, buildings, trees and meadows with a cheerful mind. It seemed to me that the trees, housed, buildings- all were running back. I saw that the farmers were working in the fields, cattle were grazing and children were playing here and there. When it was noon, my father bought some fruits, pea-nuts and cakes from the hawkers. I was taking them and enjoying the beauty of nature. I was thrilled when our train was passing over the mighty river Jamuna. The wonderful construction of the Jamuna Bridge impressed me much. Thus, enjoying the sights and scenery we reached Dhaka Airport Station in the evening. Then we got down from the train and went to my uncle’s house. It was really a memorable experience in my life.

No more today. I am well by the grace of almighty Allah/ God. Please, convey my best regards to your parents. More when we meet.

Yours ever,

Bank is the most reliable place to keep money. You can keep money there only if you have an account. So, you should know how to open a bank account. And you can do it in the following way. First, select the bank. Then, find a person who has an account with it. He will be your introducer. He will introduce you to the bank and attest your photos. Next, choose people who will your nominee. They will own the money if you suddenly die. After that, go to the manager with the photos and your introducer. The manager will give you an application form and a signature card. Fill up the form correctly and attach the photos in right places. Give your signature in the signature card. My country is Bangladesh. It is in South Asia. It is between India and Myanmar. The Bay of Bengal is to the south. The land of our country is plain. We have few hills in the east. Our largest forest is the Sundarbans. It is famous for the Royal Bengal Tiger. Dhaka is our capital city. Bangladesh is a small country. But it has a large population. Most of them are farmers. They live in villages. We became independent from Pakistan in 1971. Bangladesh is a beautiful country. I love Bangladesh.

My dear A,

A few days have passed since I left your home. I stayed there for two days. Returning home, I have fully concentrated on my studies. But I cannot still forget the hospitality of you and your family members. So, I cannot but thank all of you for your hospitality and entertainment.

Dear friend, I really spent a very nice time with you and your family members. Your parents became very busy to make me happy as soon as I reached your house. Your mother prepared different delicious food like ‘korma’, ‘polao,’ ‘biriani’ etc. and different kinds of cakes. I cannot still forget the taste of those food items. Your father also bought for me different sweetmeats and seasonal fruits. They treated me like their own son. Then, your elder brother is a very amiable person. He entertained me by telling interesting stories. He cut jokes with me and made fun with me. He also presented me a nice camera which I always keep with me. Besides, you always accompanied me while I stayed at your house. You took me to see the interesting things and places of your locality. I was much delighted to see them and acquired much knowledge and experience from them. Thus, the amiable behaviour of your family members made me forget about my own family. I must thank you all for hospitality you had shown.

My dear X,

I am greatly shocked to know that you have started smoking cigarettes. You know it is a very dangerous habit. It does a lot of harm. It makes you lose two things at a time. You lose both money and health. One puff of cigarette contains fifty billion particles of harmful matter. Smoking causes high blood pressure, cancer, heart disease and many other fatal diseases. So smoking is like taking poison. I hope you will stop smoking as soon as you get this letter.

My dear A,

Many days have passed since I got your last letter. Hope you are well. But I am greatly shocked to know that you have become a chain smoker. I think you do not know the bad effects of smoking. Now I am telling you about it.

Dear friend, you must know that smoking is a dangerously bad habit. One puff of cigarette smoke contains fifteen million particles which are harmful to hour health. Nicotine is one of them. It prevents the free flow of blood through the veins. It also reduces the supply of Oxygen in the blood. Besides, smoking causes many fatal diseases like blood-pressure, heart attack, cancer etc. It damages our lungs, nerves and brain too. Smoking irritates our eyes, offends the nose and unsettles the mind. Moreover, smoking pollutes the environment. The stench of smoking is unbearable to the non-smokers. The non –smokers are equally affected if the smokers smoke publicly. It also costs a lot of money. Sometimes, it leads to social crimes. The young smokers have to commit crimes to arrange money. Though some young people smoke cigarette to look them smart, it is totally harmful in all respects. I think you will now realize that smoking does only harm to people.

I am well by the grace of almighty Allah/ God. Hope you will give up smoking as soon as you get my letter. Please, convey my best regards to your parents.

My dear Raju,

How are you? I hope you are well by the grace of Almighty. I am also well. From a reliable source, I have come to know that your health has broken down. This is because you do not follow the rules of health. But you should know that health is wealth. It is the root of all happiness in life. So, you should have a good health.  For this, you have to follow some rules of health. Here are those.

Firstly, you have to build up your body. For this, eat a balanced diet. Never eat too much or too less. Eat as much as you need. Secondly, follow the rules of cleanliness. Wash your hands with soap before you eat anything. Don’t eat dirty food. Cover your food well. Rotten food is also dangerous. So, don’t eat rotten food. Drink pure water. Never drink dirty water. Cut your nails regularly and brush your teeth every day.  Thirdly, save yourself from skin infection. For this, use soap when you take a bath. Always put on clean cloth. Never put on dirty cloth. Fourthly, go to bed early and get up from sleep early. Take some exercise every day. You can walk in the morning and play in the afternoon. This will make your body strong and keep your mind fresh. Finally, avoid dangerous habits like smoking and taking drugs. Always avoid evil company. All these will help you keep fit.

At first take my sweet love. I hope you are well by the grace of God. I am also well. In your last mail, you have argued that you are not learning English as, you think, we don’t need English in our country. But I thing you are wrong.

You know English is an international language. So, every nation needs it for international communication. Books of higher education are written in English. If you want to get higher education, you must learn English. English is necessary to visit foreign countries. It helps to get a good job and better salaries. You will need it to use computer and smart phones. So, if you do not learn English, you will remain like a frog in a narrow well.

Subject: Importance of learning English.

My dear A,

Many days have passed since I got your last letter. Hope you are well. But I am shocked to learn that you are indifferent to English. So as a friend, I cannot but tell you about the importance of learning English.

Dear friend, you must not forget that English is an international language now. It is also the richest language of the world. So, the importance of English in our life beggars description. In order to get higher education, we need to learn English, because all the books of higher education are written in English. Besides, our success in the job market depends on our skill in English. Today organizations need people who have good command over English. English is necessary for international communication too. All international meetings and seminars are held in English. Besides, for our bilateral and multi-lateral relation with other countries, we must learn English. English is necessary in many places and works in our daily life too. Moreover, English is the language of modern science and technology. To operate computer, internet, mobile etc. we must learn English well. Again, we have to have a good command over English in order to know about foreign culture and literature. Bear in mind that if we know only the mother tongue of a nation, we can be the citizen of that country only. But if we learn English, we can be the citizens of the whole world. So, there is no alternative to learn English now-a –days.

No more today. I am well by the grace of almighty Allah/ God. Hope you will give importance to learning English after going through my letter. More when we meet.

To: abc@gmail.com

Subject: About favourite game.

My dear A,

I have received your sweet note just now. In it, you have described your favourite game in details and have wanted to know about mine. I am now writing to you about it.

Dear friend, you have mentioned that your favourite game is football. But I like cricket most. There are many reasons why I like cricket. Cricket is my most favourite game. Cricket is an outdoor game. It is played between two or more teams. It needs some wooden bats, bowls, stumps, bails, pads, gloves, helmets etc. are necessary to play this game. In cricket, one team bats and the other team bowls. It is decided through a toss. The captain who wins the toss can choose either fielding or bating first. The bowler bowls and the batsman hits the ball and runs between the wickets. The fielders obstruct the ball and try to hit the stumps. After hitting the ball, if the batsmen change their position once, one run is scored. Thus, if they change their position twice, thrice or four-times, two, three or four runs are scored. If the ball crosses or touches the boundary line rolling on the ground, four runs are made. But if the ball goes over the boundary lines without touching the ground, six runs are scored. On the other hand, a batsman may be out in many ways, such as, caught out, bowled out, run out, stumped out, L.B.W., hit wicket, etc. The two teams have to bat and bowl by turns. The team which scores more runs wins the game.

My dear A,

I have received your letter just now. In it you have wanted to know about the qualities of a good friend. I am now writing to you about it.

A good friend is a blessing on earth. She possesses many good qualities. First, a good friend is a well-wisher to her friend. She stands by her in weal and woe. She never becomes a fair-weather friend. All the relatives of a person may cut relationship with her when she falls in troubles. But a good friend never leaves her friend in times of danger. Then, a good friend always helps her friend in all works. She discusses about studies and other matters with her friend and helps her friend in her studies. She also shares her feelings with her friend. She becomes happy at the success of her friend and unhappy at her failure. Next, a good friend is a guide and adviser to her friend. She always helps her friend in taking any decision. If her friend follows the wrong path, she brings her back to the right path. After that, a good friend possesses some good qualities. She is honest, truthful, punctual, industrious and dutiful. At the same time, she avoids all bad qualities like telling lies deceiving others etc. Finally, a good friend is a good critic to her friend. She is never afraid of speaking the truth. She never flatters her friend in any situation.  If her friend does any wrong, she bolds says it to her. But if her friend does something good, she never hesitates to praise her. Thus, a good friend is a constant companion of her friend in her joys and sorrows.

Dear friend, you must not forget that the present world is the world of computer. It is an age of knowledge and information. We can get any information or send it by using computer. Besides, we can read newspapers, journals and get information about various institutions, companies, their business activities, their goods etc. through computer. Computer has become an inseparable part of all offices now. All government and private offices now use computer to perform their daily activities. Communicating with others, making documents, calculation, printing text, keeping records etc. are performed in the offices through computer. In the bank balance check, money transfer, deposit, withdrawal, etc. are done with the help of computer. Besides, computer is being greatly used in education sector too. The teaching and learning activities have now become completely dependent on laptop and projector. Computer is also being used in the publication sectors, in medical treatment, in agriculture, in communication system and all other sectors. You know hobby is an interesting way to enjoy our leisure. It is very nice that you spend your leisure by stamp collecting. But my hobby is different from yours and it is gardening. My garden is in front of my reading room. I have planted various kinds of flowers there. I work in it during my leisure. I make the soil loose, weed out grass and plant different flowers. Sometimes I water them. I have put a strong fence around the garden so that naughty boys and animals cannot do any harm to the plants. You may ask why I have chosen a dirty work like gardening. But I think it is the most suitable hobby for me. Because it refreshes both my body and mind. I forget all sorrows, pains and failures of everyday life when I see the blooming flowers of my garden. Besides, working in the garden is a kind of physical exercise. It improves my health and increases my appetite. Moreover, I grow some vegetables in my garden and it saves a lot of family expenses. Thus, my hobby helps me in many ways.

Subject: How a rural home is.

My dear A,

I have received your sweet note just now. In it you have mentioned that you have never visited a village and expressed you desire to know about a rural home. I am now writing to you about it.

A rural home is very poor to look at. It is usually made of bamboo, straw and mud. It is built on a raised platform of mud. A rural home is generally four-sheded. The structure of the roof is made of bamboo or wood. Tree trunks or bamboo posts support the roof. Straw is used to cover the roof. The walls of the house are made of bamboo slates or clay. Usually, a village home has one room. But some big houses have two or three rooms. There is always a varanda at the front side of the house. But in some houses, there may be varandas in two, three or even four sides of a house. It has only a few windows. There is no drawing or dining room in a rural home. But there is always a kitchen very near to the house. There is always a yard in front of every rural home. It may be small or large. Very often different types of flower plants and other plants are planted around a house to increase its beauty. In a word, a rural home is made with the simple easily available instruments of nature.

No more today. Hope you are well by the grace of almighty Allah/God. Please, visit my village home after the exam and you will be able to have a thorough idea about a rural home.

Subject: About my visit to a smithy.

My dear A,

In my last letter I informed you that I, with some of the students of our class, would visit a smithy soon. In reply you wanted to know about my experience of visiting the smithy. I am now writing to you about it.

Last Sunday, after school, our Agricultural Teacher, Mr Rahmn took some of us to a smithy. We went there to make some agricultural tools for making a school garden. The smithy was not far away from our school. So, we went there on foot. When we reached near the smithy, we heard some strange noise. Mr Rahman pointed to a small hut and told us to look at the hut. It was the smithy. We walked up to the smithy and looked in. Inside the hut we saw two blacksmiths. They were mighty men and their arms and muscles were as strong as iron bands. Their hair was crisp, black and long. They were working together in front of their forge. There we also saw a young boy of about our own age. He was an apprentice. He was helping the two blacksmiths in their work. He was pulling a small metal chain. When he pulled it, the bellows blew. We saw the blacksmiths making different tools. Their hammers went on making the sound ‘bang! bang! bang!’ And we saw bright burning sparks flying up in the air. Then our teacher asked them to make three spades and four hoes for us. They agreed to make it within a few days. Then we came back home with a new experience.
