A village fair is a large gathering of men, women and children on a particular place on some occasion. It is an annual meeting of the village people. It reflects the rural life of Bangladesh. It brings a change in the monotonous life of the villagers. People of all ages specially the children eagerly wait for this occasion throughout the year. I also had a long-cherished dream to visit a village fair. At last, my dream came true when I paid a visit to my friend’s village home.

A village fair is held once or twice a year. It is held on the first or last day of Bangla year. It is also held on the occasion of some religious festival. It may also be held on the occasion of the birthday ceremony of some local poet or some famous persons.

When I was moving around the fair, I saw some people gathering in a place. I peeped through the crowd and saw a snake charmer playing with a snake and mongoose.

A village fair has some demerits too. Gambling parties come here and entice people to take part in it. Cheats, pick-pockets and anti-socials come to the village fair and commit various kinds of crimes. Sometimes children are lost and it causes a great anxiety to their parents. A village fair also causes insanity. As a result, there is chance of outbreak of cholera, dysentery etc.
