A Farmer and His Three Sons

Short Version
Once there was a farmer in a village. He had three sons. The sons always argued and fought with one another. Their parents were very unhappy. They often asked the boys to stop fighting, but the sons did not listen.
One day, the farmer asked his sons to bring some sticks and a rope. He tied the sticks together and made a bundle. Then he asked each son to break the bundle. They tried many times, but they could not break it.
Then the farmer untied the bundle and gave one stick to each son. This time, they broke the sticks easily.
The farmer said, “If you stay together, you will be strong. If you fight, you will become weak.”
The sons understood their mistake. From that day, they stopped fighting and lived together happily.
Moral: United we stand, divided we fall.

Once there was a farmer in a village. He had three sons. The sons were healthy and strong, but they always argued and fought with one another. Their parents often asked them to stop quarrelling and live peacefully, but the sons did not listen.
The farmer became worried about their future. He knew that if they remained divided, other people could easily harm them. He wanted to teach them an important lesson.
One day, he asked his sons to bring several sticks and a rope. When they returned, he put the sticks together and tied them tightly into a bundle. Then he gave the bundle to his oldest son and asked him to break it. The son tried hard but failed. The other two sons also tried, but neither could break the bundle.
Then the farmer untied the rope and separated the sticks. He gave one stick to each son and asked them to break it. This time, every son broke his stick easily.
The farmer said, “You are like these sticks. If you stay together, you will be strong, and nobody can easily harm you. If you remain divided, you will become weak.”
The sons understood their father’s lesson. They felt sorry for their behaviour and promised to stop fighting. From that day, they tried to live and work together.
