A Village Market

Introduction: A village market is a place where the villagers meet to buy and sell things. It is a buying and selling centre for the villagers. Generally it sits every morning. Besides, big markets sit once or twice a week.


Location: A village market generally stands at a place where people can easily come for buying and selling things. So, it usually stands at the junction of roads or by the side of a river or a canal. Large banyan trees are grown to give shade and shelter.


Kinds of village market: There are two kinds of village market. They are daily market and weekly market. Daily market is called 'bazar'. It sits daily in the morning. Weekly market is called hat. It sits once or twice a week in the evening.


Description: A village market has three parts like open space, temporary shed and permanent shed. In the open space the sellers sit in rows. Fish, milk, fruits, betel leaves, vegetables, etc. are sold here. In the temporary sheds oil, rice, salt, etc. are sold. Some grocers, tailors, village doctors, potters, etc. sit in the permanent shed.


Importance: The village market is very useful to the villagers. Here they get all things of daily use. It saves the villagers from going to distant places to buy things. It is the meeting place of the villagers. The villagers find a social and friendly life here.


Demerits: A village market has some disadvantages too. It is a noisy and unhealthy place. The pickpockets gather there.


Conclusion: The village market does great service to the rural people. It is the backbone of the rural economy.

A village market is a place where village people gather to buy and sell things. It is a place where people from nearby villages come to buy their necessary goods and sell their surplus products. It plays a vital role in the rural economy. So, it is a very important place for the village people.


A village market is held in a particular place. Most of the village markets are situated on the bank of a river or a canal. It sometimes stands by the side of a high way or a railway station. It can also sit at the junctions of roads. 


There are two kinds of village markets-the daily market and the weekly market. The daily market is called bazar. It sits daily in the morning and in the evening. The weekly market is called hat. It sits once or twice a week. This kind of village market sits at noon and breaks up late in the evening. 


A village market has different kinds of shops. The shops are arranged in a systematic way. Generally, three kinds of shops are seen in the village market. There are the permanent shops, temporary shops and open space shops. The grocers, the cloths dealers, the tailors, the stationers have permanent shops. In the temporary shops rice, oil, salt, pepper, spices etc. are sold. On the other hand, vegetables, fish, milk, fruits, betel leaves etc. are sold in the open space shops. Besides, there are different sections of a village market. They are generally known as fish market, vegetable market, rice market, fruit market and so on. 


A village market is very important and useful to the village people. It is an important business centre. It fulfils the basic needs of the villagers both economically and socially. In the village market local people sell their products. They also buy their daily necessary things from the market. A village market has some social values too. It brings the people of different villages closer to one another. It is also an important place for the village politics and the place of entertainment for the villagers. There are some people who come here only to pass a pleasant time in roaming about.


A village market has some disadvantages too. It is a noisy and unhealthy place. Sometimes pick-pockets, cheats and criminals commit various kinds of evil deeds. Sometimes villagers quarrel over trifling matters. They sometimes waste their time by gossiping.


A village market is an important place for the villagers. It does a great deal of benefits to the village people. It is the centre of economic activities of village people. So, this place of national interest should be made free from all evils.
