Assertive to Imperative
So far you have seen how to change an imperative sentence into assertive. Now read the following sentences and note how they are transformed from assertive to imperative.
Rule 1: To change an assertive sentence into imperative, just ellipt the subject 'You' and modal verb.
Assertive: You should think before you leap.Imperative: Think before you leap.
Assertive: You should never tell a lie.Imperative: Never tell a lie.
1. Change the following sentences into imperative. (a) You should not go out in cold weather. (b) Would you post the letter for me, please? (c) You should not find fault with others. (d) You should not kill your time. (e) You should not laugh at a lame man.
Rule 2: If the assertive sentence begins with other subject (except you), Write Let + Objective form of the subject.
Assertive: I eat rice.
Imperative: Let me eat rice.
Assertive: We do not tell a lie.
Imperative: Let us not tell a lie.
Assertive: He wants to go out.
Imperative: Let him go out.
Assertive: She wants to sing a song.Imperative: Let her sing a song.

Imperative to Assertive
Remember that the subject of an imperative sentence is YOU which is not mentioned. When you change an imperative sentence into an assertive, just mention the subject. Yet, the following tips may help you transform the sentences more easily.
Rule 1: To transform an imperative sentence into assertive, we write 'You should' at the beginning of the imperative.
Imperative: Don't go out in the rain.Assertive: You should not go in the rain.
Imperative: Never tell a lie.Assertive: You should never tell a lie.
Imperative: Always speak the truth.Assertive: You should always speak the truth.

Rule 2: If an imperative sentence begins with 'Let', the object of 'Let' becomes the subject of the assertive.
Imperative: Let us read now.
Assertive: We should read now.
Imperative: Let him go now.
Assertive: He should go now.
