A Village Fair

Introduction: A village fair is a heritage of Bengali cultural. We have a close relation with this. We feel it in our heart. We feel it in our life.

Occasion: Our village life is full of occasions. We have different occasions at different times of the year. So we arrange fairs all the year round. For example, we arrange Baishakhi Mela on Pahela Baishakh. We arrange Eid Mela on Eid Day. We arrange Rath Mela on Rath Utsab.

Location: A village fair is generally arranged at a place where people can easily come for buying and selling things. So, it is generally held by the side of a river or a canal or under a large banyan tree.

Things displayed: Many things are displayed and sold in a village fair. We can get toys, dolls, cosmetics, sweets, flutes, balloons, earthen pots, etc. in a village fair. But puppet show, merry-go-round, jatra pala, jari gan and magic show are the most attractions in a village fair.

Time of visiting a village fair: A village fair lasts from a day to a month. So people can come here when they like. But afternoon and evening are the best time for visiting a village fair. Most people come then and stay till night.

Importance: The village fair is a very useful place. It is the meeting place of the villagers. The villagers find a social and friendly life here. Moreover, they can buy and sell many things here. So it saves the villagers from going to distant places to buy things.

Conclusion: A village fair is a universal symbol of our simple and peaceful life. But things are changing now. Electric light is taking the place of kerosene lamp and band party is replacing jatra gan. So, you may feel something missing here.

A Village Fair-2

When I was moving around the fair, I saw some people gathering in a place. I peeped through the crowd and saw a snake charmer playing with a snake and mongoose.
